Boost your career visibility

By September 28, 2022Blog, Career

Having good visibility at work helps you get ahead in your career because you will be better known by others.  Making decision-makers aware of what you are capable of doing, makes you more likely to be recognized and promoted.  Attracting the attention of others by showcasing your skills makes you more likely to be considered for leadership opportunities.

Read along some tips to boost your career visibility and increase your chances of advancing in the workplace.

1. Speak up in meetings

It is known that women do not speak up in meetings or take longer to express their views and opinions.  This is out of fear of making a mistake or not being right.  A great way to increase your visibility at work is to speak up in meetings.  Take a risk instead of waiting for the perfect moment.

So what if you are not 100% right?  Still, dare to bring your ideas to the table! This is a signal to others that you are a team player involved in the greater good of the organization.

2. Connect with other professionals on social media

Social media is now a way how people communicate frequently at different levels to conduct business.  Using social media strategically is a great way to increase your visibility at work.

LinkedIn is the most used social networking platform among professionals so it is a good idea to be visible there. Use it to expand your network by finding professionals in your industry and connecting with them.

Most people start to use it in a hurry when they are looking for a new job position. However, it’s often too late to start using it at that point.

Use it effectively by engaging with those you already know, connect with people you’d like to know and should know. Don’t forget to post your own content regularly to show off your expertise on a topic.

3. Create your own brand to improve your visibility at work

Everyone has a personal brand that distinguishes them from the rest. It is what you are known for.

A compelling personal brand will form a lasting impression and highlights what sets you apart from others. It should showcase your uniqueness, values, educational background, and professional experience.

Create a brand that builds trust and positions you as an authority and a leader in your industry.  This needs to be in line with your personality so that there is no clash between what shows online and the person behind the scenes.

Be consistent across your communication style, the way you show your expertise, and your professional image.
